Laser-Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) is an FDA-approved surgical procedure intended to reduce dependence on eyeglasses or contact lenses.

Corneal reshaping increases the eye’s ability to focus and improves vision.

In eyes with normal vision, the cornea bends (refracts) light precisely onto the retina at the back of the eye. But with nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) or astigmatism, the light is bent incorrectly, resulting in blurred vision.

LASIK eye surgery is the most renowned and trusted laser refractive surgery to correct vision problems.

During LASIK surgery, a special type of cutting laser is used to precisely change the cornea, a dome-shaped clear tissue at the front of your eye. This alteration of the cornea’s geometry improves vision.

How long does it take to restore sight after lasik surgery?

Immediately after Lasik surgery, mostly all patients will experience blurred vision. In general, this state lasts 8 to 12 hours (although in some cases it can last longer, which is normal). Therefore, make arrangements to have reliable transportation as you will be unable to operate a vehicle.

Recovery time following Lasik surgery generally lasts from 12 to 24 hours, but varies from patient to patient. Most patients see clearly within 24 hours after Lasik correction surgery, while others may take two to five days to fully recover.

Although you will quickly notice a significant improvement in your vision, recovery from Lasik is an ongoing process. It is possible to see even more visual improvements several weeks after the procedure. The complete corneal healing period usually takes between 3 to 6 months. Hence, this is the recommended period for certain care.

How long do LASIK results last?

Many of our patients wonder if or how often they will need to repeat LASIK. LASIK surgery is successful in restoring vision in almost all patients. However, as you age, your eyes will continue to change, which may reverse the corrections made to your eye over time. This natural aging process of the eye can start around 50 years of age. At that age, you may need reading glasses, whether you have had LASIK or not. Another age related eye condition is cataracts. LASIK surgery will NOT prevent cataracts, so it is possible that you may need cataract surgery later on. Therefore, it is important to schedule regular check-ups with one of our excellent ophthalmologists to ensure early detection and treatment of these age-related eye problems.
